According to the Yoga Upanishad, all phenomena in nature have two complementary principles or energies – a solar aspect and a lunar aspect. These are also called the pingala (solar) and ida (lunar) nadis (channels). Together this pair act as gatekeeper to the spiritual channel of Sushumna. Without their harmonization, our health and the spiritual process will come to a standstill.
The functions and activities of these two channels are as different as their actual influence in nature. Yet, once balanced through yogic sadhana, our whole system of energy will come to life.
